Brechin City 0-3 Queen of the South

Table-toppers Queen of the South continued their unbeaten start to the season with a win at Brechin City.

Buoyed by their midweek Ramsdens Cup victory on penalties against Rangers at Ibrox, the Doonhamers started well with Derek Lyle seeing his close-range free-kick tipped round the post by Michael Andrews.

Moments later, the visitors took the lead when Chris Higgins headed home William Gibson's corner.

The hosts were unbeaten in their last seven games against Queens but conceded from a set piece for the second time in the game five minutes before half-time, Lyle nodding Chris Mitchell's corner into the bottom corner.

Worse was to come for the Hedgemen eight minutes after the interval when Paul McLean upended Nicky Clark inside the area.

Gibson stepped up to tuck away the resulting penalty and extend Queens' lead over second-palce Forfar to three points.
