Newport 0-0 Grimsby
Newport County missed the chance to return to the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier after a goalless draw at home to Grimsby.
Andy Sandell's long range free-kick tested James McKeown before Danny Crow saw an effort cleared off the line.
Newport continued to press in the second half and substitute Ben Swallow threatened against a stubborn Grimsby.
Home goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley had little to do but he had to deny Joe Colbeck in the second half.
The result saw Grimsby stretch their unbeaten run to 10 games.
VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Wales:
"We have to take the positive out of the fact we have kept a clean sheet and remain unbeaten at home, but of course we want to win every game that we play.
"I cannot fault the players, we probably lacked that cutting edge and that little bit of quality in the final third.
"All in all, the players kept at it and really tried to win the game."
Grimsby Town joint-manager Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Humberside:
"We limited them to very little, but we didn't create much either. It was a game of few chances and perhaps the two teams cancelled each other out.
"Sometimes you get these games where there is a lot of expectations around it and maybe it doesn't quite live up to those expectations, but both teams were certainly trying to win the game.
"I'm not gonna stand here and say I think we did enough to win the game but I don't think Justin [Edinburgh] could either."
