Coleman had to do something to try and shake things up. The players needed a change so that it feels like "a fresh start". This might change their mind set.Ramsay should never have been made captain anyway. Now he can just concentrate on playing.
@62 - You obviously don't know many Arsenal fans then and obviously don't watch Ramsey play much.He had a fantastic Olympic tournament and has been great so far for Arsenal. He is behind the best midfield in the league of Diaby,Cazorla and Arteta so ofcourse he is on the bench, biut when he has played he has been quality this season. His goal aganst Olympiacos sums it up!
I totally agree with Thegenegenie 100% right on the point WELL SAID...
Plenty of ridiculous comments here; 'speed turned us into a quality side and coleman has messed it all up'! Speed did a good job, I agree; whether he would've guided us to qualification is doubtful but we'll never know. We should remember the good work speed did but it's time to move on now. Wales had some of the worst performances in years in speed's first few games remember!
Players need counselling through the grieving process of Speed's passing.......a decent manager wouldn't hurt either.
Wales have had some decent players over the years, but as a national team, they have always lacked confidence, and often suffered from making needless mistakes, looking like a team that had lost before the kick off, Gary Speed, turned the tide, he instilled confidence and belief,he got them playing attractive, positive football, things were looking up, Coleman has undone all that,an uninspiring man.
i think Coleman is on borrowed time in my eyes, hes not a great manager give him the next 2 games no wins sack him...Verheijen should of been given the job he could of carried on what the late Gary Speed was doing...at the moment he destroying everything Speed was doing..
Hopefully this will free up Ramsey to be the creative player, that he should be. We're in need of a spark at the moment.
@70, 'great football' come on! were talking about wales here aren't we? whoever the captain is you'll struggle to pick up more than 3 points in your group but i cant imagine changing it does anything for the morale. it was never going to be easy for anyone to attempt to do as well as speed did but coleman is probably about as bad an international manager that i can remember
All this user's posts have been removed. Why?
Ramsay is the best welsh central midfielder for a generation a hero under Speed now all is wrecked by Coleman and this stripping of the captiancy is just to deflect from the inept management, Speed had us turned into a team with a game plan from 130 to 40 ranked now we probably be ranked 200, get rid and get someone in like Speed maybe a Rush/Giggs partnership. Coleman just sucks uninspiring!!!
Also, I can't believe he didn't pick a true Welshman for the captain, for me it either has to be Bale, Ramsay or at a push Allen by far our three best players.
When Speed made Ramsey captain he was one of the best young British players and he saw him as Wales long-term leader. After having his leg snapped in two, a year out, and then struggling on his return, it is only now that he is beginning to show a return to his oast levels. In typical Coleman fashion this decision seems both ill-timed and ill-judged.
