Sven must be due an English football return by now...
Why would Blackburn want Shearer , good footballer, but NO MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE . Anyway the owners want some one cheap !!!
#58Man Utd fans/gloryhunters don't like Shearer, and they make up about a third of total english football fans, so thats probably the reason for most of the negative comments. As a Rovers fan, my heart would love to have Big Al back. He's an absolute legend and a top man, and also probably the greatest player in the history of our club. But my head says its another risk.
Anything that gets him away from MOTD on Saturday night is welcome.Great playerTerrible pundit
Shearer is an arrogant egotistical unproven manager who is too lazy to actually go and learn his trade in the lower leagues. Typical spoilt millionaire ex-footballer who wants everything handed on a plate for him.
why stop at Shearer, why not have the entire BBC punditry team all sat on a sofa in the technical area managing by power of shear ego and arrogance alone?
Some comments are clearly biased because those posting them don't like Shearer - for whatever reason. He was never going to keep a terminal Newcastle side up as a rookie manager. I actually think he does well on MOTD - is unbiased and insighful. What on earth do you people want? He was the only pundit to give Swansea a chance last season, remember. As for Blackburn - they don't deserve him.
@54 Matt_PalaceIndeed. The timing was odd to say the least and it looks like Blackburn are really on the slide now. Sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for!
Football clubs and the BBC both take the same approach: if you're an ex-player you can manage or be an insightful pundit. Shearer simulatenously proves both wrong, with his record at Newcastle and on MOTD. If he gets this job then, to use more or less his only phrase, Blackburn fans will be disappointed with that.Get Les Peters in, I say, and get a new striker, someone like Simon Smithson.
Shearer? It was a brilliant joke of Mike Ashley to have him in a Newcastle. But the guy is a dud. If he can't even say more than the obvious and mundane on the MOTD sofa, then what's he going to do in the Blackburn dressing room?
All managers should avoid Ewood Park. The fans run Kean out of the place and since played 3, 2 from a possible 9 points, 1 goal. Brilliant. We on the other hand got 7 points from those teams.BRFC fans getting what they deserve.
Yes Shearer was a great player but doesn't have enough insight to be a good manager, very surprising given his playing experience. Just hasn't got it upstairs. He loves being mentioned when management jobs become vacant and teases everyone by not ruling himself out straight away, but he won't take any in a month of Sundays. Newcastle was different, it was temporary and he couldn't really lose.
Steve Kean made a surprisingly good start in the Championship but his luck would have run out and Blackburn would have started to slide down the division anyway. Got a feeling there may be some eyebrows raised at the Venky's choice of new manager.
@50because most fans tend to get sanctimonious and hypocritical when they can find a stick to beat another club's fans with. You are right, there can't be many who would have been happy with that situation at their club.
