Hartlepool United have now gone 11 games without a win following their home defeat by high-flying Crawley.
Hope Akpan got the only goal of the game with a dipping volley from just outside the area.
Neil Austin went closest for Hartlepool but he was denied twice in the second half by Paul Jones in the Crawley goal.
The win leaves the Red Devils fourth in the League Two table whilst Hartlepool remain second bottom, with just one victory in the league.

Crawley boss Richie Barker told BBC Radio Sussex:
"We prepared in the right way and did everything right and that has shown.
"At times some of our football was excellent, we created so many chances.
"My only disappointment is that it was only 1-0 because that meant we were always on the edge but I was also delighted with the way we defend."
