Don't really see why already privileged players need awards on top of the trophies on offer in their respective leagues and cup competitions. Bit like the Oscars really - 'here, have an award for doing what you're paid to do".
The deraded utd strike again! next year Van Persil will be Gods gift to footy.
@314 yea your spot on he's built up to be englands big hope but he still needs others to perform around him aswell.@313 1:ronaldo 2:messi 3:van persie 4:falcao imoand SAF probably because he took a supposedly average team with terrible midfield and a defence rocked with injuries to the last minute of the title race against a £500m team and was, in the end, unlucky.klopp should win imo
My bad - hadn't realised. You wonder what it actually takes to get players like Gerrard, Rooney and co to walk away from the national team because I would have if all i got was rubbish from the media and opposing fans all the time. It says a lot when fans boo players of their own national team when England play.
@314 As a Liverpool fan I am sadly only tooaware that Stevie is in the same boat as Rooney in this
@314Gerrard gets the same - his performances have dropped (he is getting older) and it is only because of his amazing performances 5 odd years ago that he is expected to do the same continually and if he doesn't then he gets the 'Hollywood' ball jibe thrown at him.At least with players like Milner you learn to expect nothing and are therefore never disappointed. Both should retire.
Messi has said on being given yet another award that he is not a goal hanger. This must be the most modest opinion of the year. Rooney, what can you say? the face, the hair, the lack of wit and charm, and lack of flair. He has been added to the list as a token gesture, surely.Come you all, switch over to youtube and watch some Messi highlights!
@312 as i said ealier in this blog. The media do Rooney no favours when they build him up so big and then if the team don't perform well him and one or two others get the blame and become disliked by fans outside their own club.
@312I agree, particularly with Balotelli. I just don't get the point of the list. Why not just have the top 3 from the off instead of a shortlist. As you said, Messi and Ronaldo are in a league of their own.He may have been 2nd but players on the list generally contribute internationally or are involved in winning something. United strangely won nothing,My views are the same with SAF - why?
@311many people seem to have alot against rooney, and yes ofcourse he have no chance of actually winning it the winner will come from 2 certain players in la liga for the foreseeable future. but being 2nd top scorer in prem last season warrants it imo, certainly over balotelli and busquets anyway what did they do to be in there??
@310Why is it bitterness when saying Rooney should not be on the list? I having nothing against Rooney at all but over the last year, to have his performances on a shortlist with that of some of the other names - his new teammate as an example - is embarrassing for both himself and the seriousness of being given such an award. RVP played out of his skin and even he has no chance. Rooney...well
