A stoppage-time equaliser from Preston substitute Graham Cummins denied Carlisle victory in League One.
Striker Cummins headed home four minutes into added time as the Lillywhites second-half pressure finally told.
Carlisle went ahead when Steve Simonsen brought down Joe Garner in the box and the striker converted from the spot.
Preston were the better side after that with Akpo Sodje and Nicky Wroe going close before Cummins equalised.
