Brentford club captain Kevin O'Connor could be out for the season after being ruled out for six months with an ankle and leg injury.
The 30-year-old, who missed a similar period last season with a foot injury, was carried off on a stretcher during
Bees head of medical Neil Greig told the club website: "Kevin will need to undergo surgery to repair the damage.
"It is is anticipated to be a six-month period of rehabilitation."
He added: "Having worked closely with Kevin through his rehabilitation from long-term injury last season, I have absolute belief that he will return from this disappointing setback to play a key role for Brentford Football Club.
"Kevin demonstrates a first-class attitude to recovery and we will offer him every support in order for him to complete his recovery."
The Irishman has spent his entire career at Griffin Park, making a total of 483 appearances.
