Just because the English have stupid league names, why do the Scots have to copy them? Premier means first - so if you have a Premier Division you shouldn't also have a Division One. And what is this "Championship" nonsense? What's wrong with Divisions One, Two and Three???
It was the SPL that tried to hound Rangers. Threats of legal action seemed to be a daily occurance. Now we have a situation where Hearts are in trouble and a few more SPL teams are in trouble with more to follow. I say let the ship sink. last year it was a witch hunt but now it is not funny any more. Remember the problems Dunfermline had over non payment by Rangers, are they the next Hearts??
#186If you were actually able to think 'completely logically' you wouldn't have posted that tosh:)
#187. I think Rangers fans have already proven they will turn up regardless.
Such a better idea... The TV deal isnt relient on the Old Firm now. By reducing the amount of promitions rangers would have to achieve we would maybe even be able to get a better one. If the bodys merged we could maybe add in the scottish cup and league cup into the league tv rights! means more matches higher chance of tv getting more old firm derbies etc...
#.178 - And to continue.. I myself support a football team. Regardless of that teams name, I am a supporter and when I can afford to do so, I will go to every single game. If you're playing a supposed boring team, chances would be you'll score more goals and it'll be more fun to watch.I feel shame should fall on the Celtic and Rangers fans who fail to show for these "boring" games. Be a fan.
#184 - I completely agree with #185 on this one!Think completely logically and stop being a Champions League thinker. If there are 30 games.. the players get paid to play 30 games. So therefore the price hike you speak of is ridiculous. The game as a whole will benefit from having more young players to replace foreign talent and the leagues will all be very competitive. Hence the 16-10-16 idea.
if the clubs need that 65m then dnt you think they have been spending outsie there income like rangers did? simple fact any bad debt club needs to fold liek rangers, whether they survive as club in newco route i dnt know but the club either go bust or accept they will have to use yough fora long time until they pay there debts, they shouldnt relay on teh tv money, dnt forget why we are in recessio
#182Naive. Other countries won't shut their TV deals but lets take £65m out the game in one fell swoop and pray that punters come, pay substantially higher prices to cover the shortfall and buy more products in a 3-dip recession.#183Its an 8 game shortfall each season with less attractive games. Prices would have to rise and still generate more customers along. Yes I can see that happening:)
For all the negative comments on here already, at least it's a plan. At least it brings change to what is a dying package. But for the shortage of 6 games in the 'Premier' league it might have been in with a shout. If the average gate attendances rise as a result of implementation then maybe less of a short fall?????Great idea, give it a go, it can be no worse than the current failing set up.
we dnt need tv, it tv that helpign kill the game from greed and over spending, let the clubs un via gate and merchinising revenue only and any tv deal is for expats which gives teh chanels a bit of extra money for anything but playing staff
I enjoy the EPL but it’s shameful that domestic spend by British TV is so unfairly distributed.----------------------------------------Instead of collectively focussing on aspects such as making sure Rangers got booted out the SPL maybe what fans groups in Scotland should do is collectively pressure (as consumers) TV companies. Agree with #180. In Belgium utility consumers did that same thing.
