Middlesbrough's central defender Ben Gibson has signed a new four-year contract at the Riverside.
The 19-year-old is currently on loan at League One side Tranmere until January, although that deal could be ended by an abductor injury.
"It augurs well for Ben. He's done extremely well at Tranmere," manager Tony Mowbray told the club website.
Gibson made his only appearance for Boro as a substitute in the 2-1 win against Coventry City in April 2011.
He was an FA Trophy and Blue Square Bet Premier play-off winner with York City last season, and also had a loan spell at League Two side Plymouth Argyle.
This term the centre-half has excelled for Tranmere since playing 25 times for the league leaders.
