Newcastle's Danny Simpson sidelined with broken toe

Danny Simpson of Newcastle United moves between Ryan Giggs and Patrice Evra

Newcastle right-back Danny Simpson is set to miss the next three to four games with a broken toe.

The 25-year-old right-back suffered the injury during the 7-3 defeat against Arsenal on 26 December.

Simpson is the latest senior player to be sidelined, following injuries to midfielders Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Jonas Gutierrez, Ryan Taylor and defender Steven Taylor.

Newcastle's next match is against Everton on Wednesday.

Simpson is set to also miss the FA Cup third round tie against Brighton (5 January) and the league match away to Norwich (12 January), and could also sit out the home fixture against Reading (19 January).

The latest injury blow for the Magpies might be softened by reports that the club have agreed a deal to bring France right-back Mathieu Debuchy from Lille to St James' Park during the January transfer window.
