Marseille sign Algeria's Kadir

Algeria Foued Kadir

Algerian Foued Kadir has joined title-chasing Olympique Marseille from fellow French side Valenciennes.

The 29-year-old, whose contract with Valenciennes was due to expire in June, moves to a team who lie third in the table but level on points with leaders Paris St Germain.

Kadir started all three of Algeria's matches at the 2010 World Cup and is in the Algeria squad for this month's Africa Cup of Nations.

"The recruit will have to leave Marseille for a short while in January but he took part in his first training session with his teammates this Wednesday," Marseille said on their website (www.om.net).

Neither the fee nor the length of the contract of a player with six goals already this season were disclosed.

In another move, former Ghana captain John Mensah rejoined Stade Rennes - a club he previously played for between 2006-2008.

The 30-year-old, who had been a free agent after leaving Lyon last year, has signed on a six-month deal.
