Delroy Gordon scored a late equaliser for Nuneaton to dent Forest Green's promotion hopes, as they slipped five points behind leaders Wrexham.
The hosts missed an early penalty, with Sam Russell guessing correctly to keep out James Armson's powerful spot-kick.
Forest Green seized the initiative just before the hour mark when striker Matt Taylor headed the ball past Ben McNamara from the middle of the box.
But Gordon levelled when his shot from 10 yards ended up in the net.
Forest Green Rovers manager Dave Hockaday told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:
"There were too many balls in our box for my liking, that's very unlike us.
"We looked a little bit spread out when we're normally more compact.
"We've come here and they've only lost two games all season at home in the league, so it's a tough place to come, but I'm disappointed we didn't nail all three points.
"We've had a few scrambled off the line, we've had a goal disallowed, but I'm delighted for (goalscorer) Matty Taylor because he's worked hard."
