Scott Johnston scored in the third minute as Montrose beat Peterhead to leapfrog them in the Third Division.
Montrose striker Garry Wood almost gave his side the lead in the second minute of the match, but was thwarted by Peterhead stopper Graeme Smith who tipped his left-footed effort round the post.
But the visitors got their goal 60 seconds later when Johnston found the top left corner from 18 yards.
The Gable Endies continued to dominate in the opening stages of the match, but failed to make early chances count, with Smith making a string of important saves for the hosts.
Peterhead came close to snatching a late equaliser in injury time when Ryan Strachan's curled right-footed effort from 18 yards out forced a rare save from Montrose goalkeeper Sandy Wood.
