#31 & #33 Andrew MacGregorIt's obvious that your hatred of Gers outstrips your care for anything else in football. If clubs do fast-track Rangers, they'll be doing it for their very survival. We're filling our ground & don't need it.If, like many others, you prefer your club dies than Gers are promoted, then it is YOU who is the problem in Scottish football, not we Gers fans.
@32 Great Rangers can share with Celtic, Jags with the Spiders, Airdrie with Albion Rovers, Dundee Utd with Dundee, the Pars with Cowdenbeath, Hibs/Hearts.... Plenty of opportunities to share....
I have never understood why we can't share resources, if ground sharing is out, why not training facilities, back room staff, if not with the compitition, at least with lower league/no league teams, we have to improve grass roots/ lower league quality if we are to improve nationally
Well, to repeat the point. As long as the changes aren't designed to let Newco Rangers into the top tier. If there is a change, NR must remain in whatever league position they finish in. If that means Div 3 then that's tough. If they get a free pass to the top flight, it'll simply prove that there are no ethics in the SFL/SPL/SFA.
The meaningless games argument against larger leagues is a red herring. There are likely to be just as many meaningless games in the proposed set up, not just at the end of the season but prior to the 22 game split. The proposal is designed to ensure 4 Old Firm games a season and that's all that matters to Neil Doncaster and those that run the SPL.
Also, more regional football please! I used to live up north and enjoyed watching Elgin City playing in the Highland league. There were some great crowds and plenty of rivalries between the teams. I just don't see the same enthusiasm for Elgin v Annan.
It is simple. A top tier of 18, a second tier of 18 and a third tier of 18.Some of the HL and SJFA clubs attract bigger crowds than some of the current SFL sides. Cove Rangers for instance...... You have a 34 game season for all league games in all leagues. Much simpler, and less power to the two Weedgie bullies.
Two (pro) leagues of 12, with the rest of the teams playing regional football. Introduce an end of season knock out competition between the winners of the regional leagues in order to replace the bottom team.
the game in scotland is dead, deceased, passed on, kicked the bucket, it is an ex game. clubs and fans live in a fantasy where they still think the game here is good, and spend ridiculous sums of money they dont have on 3rd rate players. the best players are out of reach moneywise, we dont have the population, therefore we dont have the fan base or the means to bring in the best players.
Old Firm, Old Firm, Old Firm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Scottish football is about 42 clubs not just the OF, any new structure has to be in the interests of all member clubs and all fans. Yes the OF generate income but there would be nothing if the other 40 clubs fade away.
16, 16 SPL with regional below, same as Norway. Plus a 4, 8 team regional league cup group format between the 32. CELTIC and RANGERS in same group. Winner of each group goes through to semi's. 3 OF matches per season guaranteed plus potentially 1 in cup. Much needed revamp of league and league cup with guaranteed 1 non OF team in league cup final. Plus Rangers become 1 promo away from SPL 1 !
#22 you are right that the old 18 team tiers were abolished due to the perception of meaninglessness. But the subsequent strategy has damaged Scottish football. 12, 12 is no change. I could agree to it as a stepping stone to change, but we need real change. the opportunity for real change could be lost. talk of revamping cup, to make extra fixtures and provide extra OF haven't been explored enough
#15Anyone who has played football at any level KNOWS there is no such thing as a meaningless game. ------------------------------If that is right then you should have listened to Willie Miller recently talking about the old Scottish 1st division and how by end of January each season the remainder became 'meaningless' games in which it was difficult to motivate players.
@13 Its weak yes...but 16th in uefa rankings is about right for scotland, there are alot weaker than us, unfortunetley because the scottish league used to be brilliant and used to produce top class players (years ago) and we get compared to our british counterparts, and we have 2 of the biggest clubs in europe in our leagues, we get alot of focus, scottish football is not beyond saving
