Wesley Sneijder: Inter Milan accept bid from Galatasaray

Wesley Sneijder

Inter Milan have accepted a bid from Turkish club Galatasaray for Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

Galatasaray are believed to be prepared to pay 10 million euros (£8.2m) for the 28-year-old and meet his wage demands.

Inter president Massimo Moratti said: "Galatasaray's offer satisfies us. Now it depends on the player."

Sneijder, who was strongly linked with Manchester United last summer,external-link has not played for Inter since 25 September because of a dispute over his contract.

It remains to be seen whether the playmaker will agree to move to Turkey, having suggested he would only consider one of Europe's top few teams.

In November, the Italian side informed Sneijder he would not play for them until he agreed a significant cut in his salary.

The player refused, meaning he has been on the sidelines despite being fit for the past two months.

    Julio Cesar went from Inter to QPR, and now there's a possibility that Sneijder may move to Galatasaray.

    Has anyone else from Inter's 2010 treble winning squad moved on in similar fashion?

    @BangorSteve, how ignorant can you be by calling the country backwards? The league is obviously not at the standard of Premier League or La Liga however the living standards in Istanbul is easily as good if not better than the UK or Europe generally. Should read and travel a little...

    2 footed, immaculate technique and supreme vision. Fit and on form he is Holland's most genuine world class player and the kind of rounded footballer you won't see come out of academies in this country.

    It is a shame that such a player finds himself in the stands, regardless of the reason. A new home in Turkey wouldn't be such a shame and contributes towards a balancing of the CL power landscape.

    Turkey is next to Greece and Bulgaria! EU member Cyprus is more east than Turkey! Do you think Turkey isn't in Europe because it's not part of the EU? So Switzerland and Norway aren't in Europe either then, right? Turkey is not a backward country, you just no nothing about it. Turkey gave women the right to vote even before Spain, Portugal, Italy Switz... Even the first cathedral is in Turkey!

    I'll admit I don't know much about Turkish football, other than having seen Galatasaray play on tv a couple of times, but Turkey as a country wouldn't be bad at all. A lot of history and culture there. Not everyone can look past their own cultural prejudices, though.

    enough with the sneijdy comments, the move has not been finalized yet, and i do think galatasaray are a big club because of their championsleague experiance, obviously chelsea cant afford his wages

    @ 229 No one is asking you to move to Istanbul. Turkey already has - and has had - a number of high profile players. The Turkish league is a good league. Galatasaray are a big club who are still in Champions League. If they can meet his wage demands, then why would he not move there!?

    So in summary although he would probably opt for Man United if they came in for him, Gala are a decent alternative.

    @32 Not sure about the pay cut, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray do pay top wages... ask Raul Meireles, Dirk Kuyt, Muslera etc

    @23 Same could be said for countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Belarus etc fact is they all play in European competitions both at club and national level.

    8.2 million. 200k a week means in a year he will have cost them 18 million and 28 million in 2 years. If Galatasaray think one of the best midfielders in the world in his peak years is worth 28-33 million overall (if he goes he'll only stay a couple years) then why not? They are a good side. It's a fine balance if it's worth it for a team like that though. Still cheaper than Torres or Carroll

    The adoration a footballer can get in Turkey playing well for a decent club is MUCH more than any premier league or la liga player gets. If a player does well in the Turkish League he can become revered by the fans which is not something the premier league can offer frankly because as we see at one point or another people will boo you no matter how good youve been in the past

    Think Galatasaray could sort the wages, given income tax rates in Italy are close to 50% and in Turkey its more like 5%. Just depends whether he's leaving for dollar or footballing reasons. Surprised Citeh haven't been mentioned, perhaps PSG?

    Personally I'd love him at Liverpool, wishful thinking perhaps... Go on Wes ;)

    For those who think Sneijder is "greedy", what about Inter? What about their extortionist demand of "reduce your wages or you won't play"?

    It DOES NOT MATTER how much money he's paid, the principle is the same: both parties signed a contract, both should either honor the agreement or amicably (if possible) come to some sort of altered agreement.

    Sad seeing some people turning this into another International debate, anyhow Turkey is a beautiful country, but of course like nearly every place, it has it's problems - but maybe discuss these on the News/International part of the site? Or your local Libraries even?

    Anyhow, Sneijder has his obvious reasons for his interests.

    Another thing as well.If he's thinking about money.In UK he has to pay 50% in tax.In Turkey the max he will have to pay is 35% so on 200k a week he would only get roughly 100k in UK and 130k a week in Turkey. That's £1.5m extra a year in Turkey. For the money it would make sense to go to Turkey.He pays 43-46% in Italy now. Depends what he wants more, good money or top class football at his prime.

    how is this greed? imagine you signed a contract getting paid X amount. youre one of the best in the world at what you do so its a high amount. your employer then turns around and says we will now pay you Y amount which is a lot less then your previous pay. this means that people worse than you get paid more than you elsewhere. how would you feel?

    For those who are abusing on Turkey, Turkish Super league or Galatasaray, how many of you know something about them? What makes you speak that way? The Turkish giant is able to buy top class players like Sneijder. And also, I see that the teams of the people who commented here in negative are not even at CL, so who the hell are you? Gala is at the second round and will most probably defeat Schalke
