The comments made by some individuals on this site relating to Galatasaray and Turkey are complete nonsense. According to them "Ignorance is bliss!"Turkey is developing smoothly and rapidly with their economy and have been implementing the correct strategies which will earn them a membership in the EU. However, the cultural differences cannot be a reason to doubt their potential. Good Luck Gala!
@246Of course the country has problems, some more deep rooted than others, but it's one thing that is bad-practice among some groups, and other you trying to portray it as a general culture.It's similar to social-district divide issues in Spain, or Ireland lets not forget - but this actually relevant here, to bloggers, or to dear old Sneijder? Not quite here for a football debate are you?
...and Turkey, such an enlightened country:"Turkish girl, 16, buried alive 'for talking to boys'Death reopens debate over 'honour' killings in Turkey, which account for half of all the country's murders"
@242, well said Muzzy...
The top few teams arent exactly rushing to sign him. Probably with good reason.
#241 - didn't he invent the credit card too?
So according to some people a washed up team like Liverpool with no chance of Champions League football for the foreseeable future and a old stadium of 45000 in less than average city like Liverpool. Is a better option than going to a Champions League team in last 16 with brand new 53000 stadium in one of the greatest cities in the world, Some people need to get a reality check.
I don't know much about him, but I do know he was good in the film Jaws.
If Turkish club are so bad, why where English clubs banned from Europe for 5 years. When there is still hooliganism & racism in UK how dare people act so high & mighty. This idea of stabbings by Turks relates to the tragic murder of 2 Leeds fans in a incident unrelated to football, but when has there been any other incidence of foreign supporters being stabbed in Turkey? European bias as usual.
@228 and 229, who u calling silly boy u mug!, u've prob never been to Turkey, u don't have a clue about life in Istanbul I bet, most of Central Manchester is a dump, this is common knowledge, may be u shud stick pins in ur eyes!! as for 236, original-koppite, we Turks can be hard sometimes if provoked as we were by Leeds fans, I know Scouse fans aren't the nicest either so don't pretend they are.
muzzy..I wouldn't live in central London if it were free but you could play for a London club without ever seeing central London. Chelsea train in Cobham Surrey,It's beautiful there, houses cost a fortune but top players could buy a nice house with two months salary so be honest, why would the Dutchman go to Turkey.Only no option losers such as Harry Kewel looking for a last big payday go there.
I'm a little surprised there was no interest from premier league clubs, can't name any high profile dutch players that haven't sucseeded in England.
muzzyizzet...You seem obsessed by Heysel. The tragedy that occurred there was caused by UEFA incompetence, they put a top final in a stadium unfit to host it,segregated half the kop to the Italians and half to the Scousers. Some Italians threw missiles at the Scousers, the Scousers gave chase through a pretend barrier and the wall collapsed.Tragedy ensued but not coldblooded like Turks with knives
Why are people being xenophobic again? Istanbul as a major city has fairly low crime rate. I have never once felt unsafe in the streets of Istanbul. I am an Londoner and I can't say the same thing about London, but I would still never say to anyone don't move to London or you would get stab it is ridiculous, even though it has a very high knife crime rate.
@225 i see 3 people have disliked that comment, i hope that doesn't mean they want him to be stabbed :/
@232Sorry to hear that. But have you tried Mexico, England, France, Chile, Italy, Russia, Panama, Canada or any more whilst you were at that, just off top of my head?
@227a quick search on internet about people getting stabbed in Turkey shows just today a bus driver getting stabbed because he asked the passenger not to use the front door for exiting the vehicle. There is a video of it on liveleak. You can search for it.On the other hand i believe these are the problems of normal people and not a million dollar football payer.
@ 229 No one is asking you to move to Istanbul. Turkey already has - and has had - a number of high profile players. The Turkish league is a good league. Galatasaray are a big club who are still in Champions League. If they can meet his wage demands, then why would he not move there!?
