@266 the 'foul' by Guzan? Where he spread himself in front of Puncheon? Thus taking the ball before Puncheon clattered into him? That's a penalty?I've heard everything now.
251. rockfella So which of the young villa players looks like being remotely good enough? Weimann, and nobody else----I'd add Benteke, Clark and Baker to that list... and I'll reserve judgment on Westwood, LowtonPlayers clearly not good enough are Bannan, Delph, Bennett and Stevens. At least Lambert's giving them a shot... MON thought Gary Cahill and Wayne Routledge weren't good enough.
The problem is Mark Halsey has always been very anti-Aston Villa. He only gave the pentaly AFTER Southampton missed the shot on goal. Under the rules the ref should give the pentaly straight away and not FIVES moves after.
Rodriguez moved his leg out the way to make the pass to Ramirez who had a very good opportunity to score. He did not once appeal for a penalty, and nor did any other Saints players.THE PENALTY WAS GIVEN ON GUZANS FOUL ON PUNCHEON!Situation 1: Play a pass to possibly score without getting hurt.Situation 2: Play a pass to possibly score with the risk of injury.Make your choice.......
262.The way they're playing yes because they're capable... the team itself no... Times are tight and they're the best we've got at the moment... Villa fans with any sense will have seen this massive budget slash coming for a while. Lerner's thinking like a businessman.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1301712/Buy-buy-Martin-How-ONeill-spent-120million-years-Aston-Villa.html
I don't think he went looking for a penalty, he fell avoiding another poor tackle Saints had been on the receiving end of all day - Ramirez studded in the groin, Shaw stretchered off. If he hadn't taken evasive action he would have been studded above the ankleOnce the penalty was given, it is not up to the player to contest it.
he dived.but there are 90 minutes and 38 matches... it all irons out
And no doubt Lambert will be embarrassed by the team he put out and the way in which they are currently playing.
Forget the referee, it's Villa and Lambert that should be embarrassed by how terrible they are. They were pretty terrible last season but have taken it to a new level this year.
Rodriguez is guilty of an awful dive. I don't think there's any doubt of that, unless you're a Saints fan. What annoys me is the way the manager Adkins hasn't got the honesty or courage to own up. It's clearly not a penalty, and to pretend otherwise is pathetic and dishonest. Grow some, mate, and tell the truth.
"I have looked at it... for me there is no contact with the player. Just as well he moved his foot out of the way, as there would have been.''What an astonishingly stupid thing to say.Time to bring in retrospective punishment of cheats.
@symbol. What are you on about? Are you saying that goals (be it legitimate and honest, or cheated) don't decide the result? Villa are very poor at the moment and are struggling in every area. I'm not blaming Rodriguez for villa being awful. I'm blaming him for being a diving cheat who has made the refs job impossible. And I'm saying anyone looking for reasons to support him is being a fool
@235 I wish I could have a bet with you, I've seen every team in the PL live this season, some home and away, and I don't think that either Newcastle or Sunderland will get relegated.
I have seen a few posts on here stating that Villa are too big, have too much history and are too good to go down - absolute nonsense on all counts. You will go down if you finish in the bottom 3. Villas performances of late suggest there is a really good chance of Villa finishing in the bottom 3. They cannot defend and they cannot score goals. Wake up and smell the coffee.
I'll laugh my head off if Southampton stay up by a point and Villa go down. How Villa have got so many points is beyond me. Abysmal
To be fair to the ref, from his angle it must have looked like there was contact. The Adkins and Lambert interviews are hilarious though, they couldn't have made themselves look any more ridiculous if they tried with their "there was no contact but he didn't dive" and "stonewall pen" comments. Rodriguez should get retrospective ban and Southampton should have accepted they were very fortunate.
'They are a team of cheats and a disgrace to English football.' Oh honestly get off your high horse. If there were no replays everyone would've given that penalty. Had Jrod not moved his leg it would've been a foul and a penalty anyway. Saints have had at least 2 stone wallers not given this season so swings and roundabouts. Villa are going down and Saints are staying up so get used to it.
@Mikey2012 So this happened in the last minute did it? No. So Villa had an hour or so to get an equaliser but they couldn't do it.It's alright Lambert slating the ref for making one mistake, yet has he has made several this season - namely picking some of the worst players in the Premiership. If I was Mark Halsey and Lambert was whining I'd tell him that. Villa are going down. GOOD.
Villa robbed of a 0-0 draw at home to Southampton. Lambert continues to embarrass himself by failing to admit how awful Villa are. He talks as if the young players are a big team for the future and patience is needed, a bit like Brendan Rodgers. So which of the young villa players looks like being remotely good enough? Weimann, and nobody else.
