You cannot get away with no pace or strength as a defender in the Premier league. He has been a disgrace this season in terms of his effort. He is overweight and not properly conditioned. In the end that responsibility is down to the player. His diet and efforts on getting himself in proper shape were not good enough. Schalke home, Man Utd away and Liverpool at home he was poison. Good riddance
Chamack was an average player at best. scoring around 10 goals a season in France, in 30 odd games isnt exactly top class. Rosicky is another matter, he was a brilliant player, who has done decent for Arsenal, but his injuries over the years have hindered him.
Another atrocious Wenger signing that has been sent out on loan as no other club would be stupid enough to buy him outright. Still I'm sure the lemmings still think Arsene Knows Best.Kroenke, Gazidis, Wenger out. Usmanov, Dein, Mourinho in. We want our Arsenal back.
Wonder if he will swap shirts with Neymar at half time after being destroyed for 45 mins
As an Arsenal, I have to say I am little disappointed at this one. This smells a little like Chamakh and now Rosicky two players who were once decent players (Rosicky returned to being very good last year) and then simply not given the opportunity to establish oneself due to preference of another player (Chamakh-RVP, Rosicky-Wilshere, Arteta, Diaby take your pick and now Santos-Gibbs).
Denilson? world transfer fee at the time..the one at Betis. absolute flop.
Talking of rubbish brazilan imports, in the top 5 worst must be Afonso Alves, Middlesborough's record signing (around £10-£12m), he was fatter than Mike Ashley and scored 4 goals in 31 games....But he was bought by Gareth Southgate whilst Santos was bought by Wenger, seriously get a grip on the transfer policy, it's killing us....
Good riddance to bad rubbish. Another player that AW bought that is "so good" that we can't sell him to anyone so we have to loan him out.
Amazing how much coverage this guy had got regarding his lack of quality. Yet I am sure there have been some just as bad left backs bought by other teams - Buttner comes to mind, but we will let that one slip as it's one rule for one, ah you know the rest
@128 I dont think so, because even though transfer fees were payed, that may still be recovered, whislt the player not in use isnt costing the club in terms of wages. Plus sometimes when signing a player on loan the club will have to offer some cash incentive to selling club. So for instance Denislon costed you 5, he's been loaned out for 2-3 years? wages paid, a little bonus and then you sell!
Once he adapted to the Premiership he looked half decent even scored against Chelsea, he then got injured and hasn't been the same since. When Gibbs is fit he knows he's not got a chance and has played like that. He's given up and his form is awful, loaning out may build his confidence but only to transfer him out. Our selling policy is costing us millions, Bendtner, Ashavin, Denilson, Chamach etc
I read an article during Jan where Wenger said he had two "quality" players in every position meaning he was under no immediate pressure to buy.Questioning Wenger's sanity I shouted from the rooftops "what about left-back!?" No positional sense whatsoever and spent most of the time on his backside. Let's hope he does so well at Gremio they offer a decent amount of money. Failing that, for free.
@ Swilce - and your comment is different how ?As for Santos being a winger/midfielder, I'm sorry to burst your bubbles but when a player spends half the time passing the ball to the opponents he simply is NOT good enough. Another feature of our stupid 4-3-3 system is the wide men need to track back, Santos puts very little effort into running in general so a spot out wide won't work either.
An example of the inept transfer policy that Arsenal have shown us over the last 5-6 years. I cannot wait for the next one...
105. abyajdm I regret to say but I agree with you. We are merely a bank. Having signed a Cup tied player says it all. As loyal costumers I mean supporters, we pay to much fees for too low of an interest.TRIM where you at?! :)
Why on Loan?! Acai Acai Acai
Just because he's been loaned doesn't make him a bad player. Arsene has a habit of loaning players to gain experience and other clubs have benefited from this policy. Jack Wiltshere was sent out on loan and returned to be one of the best English midfielders. Santos started well at Arsenal and if that form returns he could be a good player. I agree that he seems best suited as a midfielder.
How many useless articles have we got out on loan now?
