Alan Judge struck the only goal of the game to defeat Carlisle and keep Notts County's play-off hopes alive.
Judge's vital goal came after he latched on to a John Cofie pass before delicately lobbing the ball over visiting keeper Mark Gillespie.
Magpies stopper Bartosz Bialkowski then stole the show producing fine saves to deny Rory Loy and Sean O'Hanlon.
Bialkowski also saved well from James Berrett before Carlisle had Liam Miller sent off late on for violent conduct.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Notts County manager Chris Kiwomya told BBC Radio Nottingham:
"It was a difficult game for us. They stopped us, pressed us high and were very good at closing us down.
"We tried to play, couldn't play, so we had to start playing off the second ball sometimes.
"They kept going and sometimes you just need everybody to play their part."
