Promotion hopefuls Grimsby have gone six games without a win as strugglers Barrow earned a goalless draw.
The Mariners are perilously close to dropping out of the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off places after sending most of the season in the top five.
Cleveland Taylor failed to convert when clear for the home side, who are two points above sixth-placed Forest Green.
Shaun Pearson headed wide from Jamie Devitt's free-kick but Grimsby failed to break the deadlock.
Barrow, who put in a solid rearguard display, have now kept a clean sheet in their last three outings but remain three points adrift of safety.
VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Grimsby Town joint-manager Rob Scott told BBC Radio Humberside:
"It wasn't brilliant but I thought we pretty much dominated without really creating too much.
"We're playing, at the moment, with a lack of belief and that's the worrying thing. As footballers they've got to take responsibility and be brave and stand up to it. I don't think they realise quite what the prize is at the end of it; to say they could all be Football League players at the end of the season if they continue to drive on and believe in themselves.
"If we could go around the dressing room and give them that little shot of belief and confidence then we would be happy."
