Bury winger Craig Jones is expected to miss the rest of the season with the groin injury he suffered in the 4-1 defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday.
It will further limit the resources of boss Kevin Blackwell, who is battling to keep the club in League One with the Shakers under a transfer embargo.
"He's a big loss to us at the moment," Blackwell told BBC Radio Manchester.
"He was distraught when he came off because he was just starting to feel comfortable in the team."
Jones, 26, and has played 26 times this season, scoring his first goal for the club in the
Blackwell continued: "He's someone we have high hopes for and we want to make sure we don't throw him into a situation where the kid loses his confidence because the players around him aren't performing.
"We've been bringing him on and trying to get him to understand his game.
"He's been a non-league player for a while and he has non-league traits. We're trying to get them out of him and just when he's starting to show how exciting he can be, he'll be out for four to five weeks."
