Yeah so why is nothing done? Why is nothing ever done!? 2 leagues of 20 & 22, play each other twice. Have a professional Futsal league. Have summer football. Set a maximum 3 foreign player limit. The people in charge are not making ANY changes. They are failing but laughing all the way to the bank on their big wages because they're accountable to no-one. Salmond please step in & replace them all!
Summer football is option. But it wont happen cause people dont like change. It might get more interest instead of direct competition with English league and better weather to watch football etc. Something has to change. But we say that everytime after we fail to qualify but nothing is done.
Im Irish but Ive always loved Scotland. Lived in Reekie. It pains me to see how far down yis have fallen. It can be sorted out but it will take ye at least 5 years and two more non qualifying tournaments. But dont foirget tae fight. Get yer lads to wear the shirst with pride. Ye never know. O Flower of Scotland, when will we see your likes again ? Anyone who cant play after hearing that, I dunno.
@196 "the loss of gers as a major club means a slightly smaller pool of players to pick from"What?Wallace is the only one I can think of who might be in the squad if they were in the SPL. Black only got called up after he went there despite them already being in the third. The rest of the internationals who were at Ibrox before liquidation all moved and are still available to Strachan.
Waterboy you dont know what your talking about. The 'monopoly' of the spl has been around for decades, yet still we have produced teams that have progressed to the finals. On paper this is one of the better teams in the last few yrs, [in terms of players in the prem] but the loss of gers as a major club means a slightly smaller pool of players to pick from. centre bk's is a major issue also
@194 A higher percentage of the population attend games in Scotland than England. Seehttp://goo.gl/WUS1RIt isn't that skewed for a smaller nation to have 50% of the matchgoers watch the 'big 2'. Portugal and Croatia have 40% or over but still produce players. Uruguay is worse than Scotland. I also get sick of people blaming the English for everything but that apart, you're talking pants.
@190Resorting to personal insults doesn't help your cause, I'm afraid.Scotland love to make excuses and make England their scapegoat for their numerous embarrassing failures. 'We have no money, small population' blah blah blah. The root of your problem is the monopoly of the Old Firm and the poor product that is the SPL. If you guys started ATTENDING games your clubs might have a chance?
Its quite simple really. The vast amount of investment by the BRITISH government and BRITISH media is given to English sport. It wasn't too long ago that the Mens World Champion Squash player had to give up being Scottish to represent England in order to get funding from the Lottery.
on the basis that we're not able to qualify for Rio and next Euros will come too soon for any meaningful change to take place, we'd be as well to look to 2018 (5 years away) and bin any player over 23 now so that we can look at bringing on a group of players over that period. short termism is what is killing creativity/risk taking at all levels of football. what have we got to lose?
It is what it is, seeding the groups doesnt help, (with the World Rankings being so, well, wrong) because Scotland are pretty much guarenteed to get three far superior teams anyway.I only cling onto the fact that we are simply where England will be in 10 years time; hopefuly by then we will have gone full circle! Simple - too many foreigners in our leagues
