Gainsborough Trinity manager Steve Housham accused his players of "losing their bottle" after seeing their Blue Square Bet North play-off hopes dented by a 1-0 home defeat by Brackley Town.
Gainsborough now lie seventh in the table, six points and two places adrift of Altrincham, who occupy the final play-off place.
Housham's side do have a game in hand.
But he told BBC Lincolnshire: "We are bottling this play-off place. We are throwing it away."
Brackley led from the fourth minute and Housham was angered by his side's inability to fight back.
"They got the early goal and we couldn't break them down," he said. "We weren't clever enough.
"I want them to go home and think about that [being called bottlers] because it hurts and it's hurting all of us."
