Manchester United's Sean McGinty has joined Tranmere Rovers on loan until the end of the season.
The Republic of Ireland Under-19 defender arrived at Old Trafford from Charlton Athletic in 2009 but has not yet made a first team appearance.
McGinty, 19, has also had loan spells at Oxford, Morecambe and Carlisle.
"He can play left-back or centre-back and gives us extra options in our defence," Rovers boss Ronnie Moore told the club website.
"Our chief scout Dave Philpotts has watched him play for United's under-21s and he's a big, strong lad who likes to get forward.
"Manchester United rate him highly and I'm sure he'll be a good addition to our squad."
