Late goals from substitutes Yoann Arquin and Romello Nangle fired Notts County to victory over Colchester.
The home side took the lead when Jeff Hughes slotted home but the U's equalised when Jabo Ibhere tapped in after a fantastic passing move.
Notts restored their lead when Arquin met a corner with a terrific looping header and teenager Nangle sealed the win with a cool finish.
Colchester are now five points clear of the drop zone with three games to play.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Colchester United manager Joe Dunne told BBC Essex:
"After we got the equaliser we were OK. In the second half we were fine, we were dealing with most things, I thought we were coping really well with the game.
"Set-pieces have undone us, responsibilities of marking and so on. The second goal went in and we lost our way a bit.
"We made the changes prior to that to go and win it, because we felt we could. But that didn't make any difference to a ball coming into the box and not being defended properly.
"I think it was (a missed opportunity), they played the youngsters and that's just the way it goes on a very difficult pitch away from home."
