Sometimes you need to step back to move forward and sometimes you take a step back to go further back. Only the religious rely on blind faith. Businesses generally do not voluntarily downgrade because 'eventually's' become sometimes and then 'never'. This 'back to basics' mantra has achieved mythical wisdom status for those who rely on 'ifs' and 'maybe'. Don't buy it, its nonsense.
@481 Celtic get 2.4 million for winning the SPL, the rest of the teams get around 1.6 million per season, the rest of the revenue is made up from player sales, season tickets, mercendise etc, you are correct AT FIRST teams may get less money with a bigger league, but sometimes you need to take a step back to take a step forward, eventually with a better product, revenue would improve...greatly
480You've just answered your own question and in case you don't know how lets just say that SPL clubs get £1m each season with 12 clubs which drops by 200k for each club under a 16 team league and there are 6 less games for additional revenue. Clubs in Div 1 would only get access to this pot under the current proposals, there are no others. So less money per club!!
@479 How will a bigger league effect the economics of the scottish game? As long as a tv deal is in place (which it is) then the money generated will be distributed between more clubs, with more clubs in the first division getting the chance to gain promotion and get a slice of revenue at this moment in time they do not have,
477If I questioned his entitlement to an opinion or a vote I'd have said that and idiot-proofed the post!! You don't look at things much below the surface do you? But please try and make an economic and player quality case for a bigger league that doesn't involve a drop in both and a cut to youth development. You won't be able to do it.
Sounds to me like the fans are in as much disagreement as the club chairmen. So with that in mind why doesn't those in charge of Scottish football come up with alternatives to the 12-12-18 set up inc splits, play offs etc. Then put it to a vote which not only includes the Club owners but more importantly to the people who this will affect most - The FANS.Or are they too afraid of common sense !
@473 i dont understand what you mean gilmour 'took the media route' , he is entitled to his opinion and the club is entitled to its vote, and Gilmour is 100% correct, if you think the 12-12-18 suggestion is a good proposal then you are deluded my friend! and i dont think St Mirren FC will be the only club to vote against this nonsence of a set-up

I see my post, #463 has been given the thumbs down by at least one of you.Proves my point:The idea that you can dictate with the 11-1 in place is nonsense, and anyone who thinks you can, isn't very bright.
Interesting comments from Dundee Utd Chairman. 'A lot of pressure will be applied over the next week'. Presumably not the pressure of the fans survey last week or the pressure of sporting integrity that was so important to him last season. Never witnessed so few morals in a person who's only claim to fame is having a father with morals. Total respect for Eddie. Can't say the same for his son.
470Agree with your views on reconstruction. Gilmour blew it big time. He had plenty of time to air these views to his club fans and speak to his fellow SPL Chairmen but instead he chooses the media route. As ever, tail wags dog and the tyranny of the wee clubs dominates change in Scottish football. Hope he comes to regret it and fans can hardly blame the OF on this one.
@471 agreeing with a ted.! did you know that every player in an organised club in England can clearly see exactly what level within the structure he is playing at. And therefore can aspire to reach a higher level. The Scots structure is all over the place. Should we ask the English for advice?
@469 thats intreguing! i never knew it was that different!Yeah def agree on that, just to state a new topic....what are the dundee clubs all about? Are dundee just chuckin the toys out because there getting relegated?
