Spennymoor celebrate FA Vase triumph

Spennymoor Town manager Jason Ainsley was surprised by the turnout of supporters in the town for their FA Vase parade on Monday.

Saturday's 2-1 victory against Tunbridge Wells at Wembley was commemorated with an open-top bus tour and civic reception at the town hall.

"As soon as we arrived at the town hall to see thousands of supporters it was incredible," Ainsley told BBC Tees.

"It brought the town together and gave the area a lift."

Moors' celebrations were punctuated by a rearranged Northern League fixture with Shildon on the day of the parade, as the club face a run of five games in 12 days to complete their commitments.

"We had a game on the morning at 11 o'clock, which I don't think there was a sober player amongst them, which didn't help, but we got the right result as we drew. Ainsley added.

"I told them to enjoy the occasion, because they don't come round very often."
