Crewe Alexandra: Jon Guthrie signs new one-year contract

Crewe Alexandra defender Jon Guthrie has signed a new one-year contract with the League One club.

The Wiltshire-born centre-back, 20, made his debut as a late substitute in a 2-1 win at Swindon in October.

After his first start, in a 3-1 defeat at Bournemouth in March, at left-back, Guthrie missed the final two months of the season with a groin injury.

But he has done enough to warrant a new deal as boss Steve Davis bids to build on a 13th-placed finish.

"I am delighted to be given another chance," said Guthrie.

"It was a bit of a nervy time for me to have the injury and miss over two months of football.

"When you are out of contract and injured, it could go either way, so I'm just pleased that Steve Davis has seen something in me to offer me another year."

Guthrie joined in February 2012 after being spotted in Wiltshire playing for his local Wessex League Division One side Pewsey Vale.
