Adam Boyes: Gateshead agree deal to sign Barrow striker

Gateshead have signed striker Adam Boyes on a one-year contract after agreeing what they describe as a "compensation package" with Barrow.

The 22-year-old scored 40 goals in 99 games for Barrow, having previously played for York, Scunthorpe and Boston.

"He scored a lot of goals in a relegated side and that speaks volumes.

"He is a big lad who handles the ball well and can play in various attacking positions," Gateshead manager Anth Smith told the club website.

Boyes, an England C international, played for York at Wembley in the 2009 FA Trophy final before moving on to Scunthorpe for a six-figure fee.

He is Gateshead's third signing since the end of the season following Colin Larkin and former York team-mate Richard Brodie.

"We made inquiries about the player in January and have monitored the situation since then," Smith said.

"Boyes was a prime target, so I am delighted to get him on board."
