Notts County have appointed former Rangers, Birmingham City and Scotland assistant manager Andy Watson as their new first-team coach.

The 53-year-old won two Scottish titles working with Alex McLeish at Rangers and also enjoyed Carling Cup success with him at Birmingham.

Watson is the first backroom appointment made by boss Chris Kiwomya.

He told the club website: "I hope to impact some of the experience I've gathered and take the boys forward."

Watson, who played for Aberdeen, Leeds, Hearts and Hibernian, also worked with McLeish at Motherwell and for the Scotland national team.

Watson added. "Having spoken with Chris and Jim Rodwell, I know that they've got a love and a passion for the club.

"I want to have that love and passion and I'm sure I will, but the one thing they will get from us is hard work and a desire to do well."
