Conor Hourihane signs two-year Plymouth Argyle contract

Plymouth Argyle captain Conor Hourihane has signed a new two-year contract.

The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-21 midfielder's previous deal was due to expire this summer.

He scored five goals in 47 appearances for Argyle last season and was given the captaincy when

"I hope we can kick on after last season and be competing at the other end of the table," said the former Ipswich youngster.

"Everyone at the club deserves that after the troubles of the past few years, especially the fans."

Hourihane after a period as a trainee at Sunderland.

He has played 89 matches for the club, but has also received three red cards, and been booked a further 19 times.

Despite that, he said: "It has been fantastic for me since I have been at Plymouth.

"When I arrived here, it was really a case of sink or swim. I had to come to the table and show what I could do.

"It's worked out really well for me and I can't wait to get going again."
