Worcester City future secured after pulling out of stadium deal

Worcester City appear to have been saved from potential closure by sidestepping their originally planned move to a new home at Nunnery Way.

They have confirmed to BBC Hereford & Worcester that they have provisionally agreed terms to be released from their contract with building firm St Modwen.

They are home of neighbours Kidderminster Harriers, in August.

The agreement will allow Worcester to meet their capital gains tax commitments, as well as still having money left to go towards a new stadium in the city.

They were due to hand over the remaining £1.3m from the sale to St Modwen for initial land and infrastructure costs at Nunnery Way, but the club would then have been responsible for the crippling costs of the new stadium.

The club, who thanked St Modwen for "accommodating their request to terminate the contract", have yet to comment on the search for other sites where a new ground could potentially be built.
