St Mirren: Left-back Danny Grainger joins Paisley side

Danny Grainger

St Mirren have signed former Hearts defender Danny Grainger on a one-year deal, with the option of a further year.

The 26-year-old was released after two seasons at Tynecastle and had recently spent time on trial with Sheffield Utd.

Saints boss Danny Lennon told the club's website: "We lost a very good left back at the end of last season when Paul Dummett left.

"Danny is a top quality left back to replace him.

"He has the ability, experience and character we are looking for to help take the club forward and we are delighted to have him on board."

Englishman Grainger has also played for Dundee Utd, St Johnstone and Gretna.

    It's the managers job to retain and procure talent. It's a managers job to stand up and be counted when its doesn't go right. It's a managers jobs to accept criticism and rectify it without unleashing excuses. It's a managers job to perform, if not he knows the consequence...

    Celtic will win the league. The rest seems okay, the only exception being that i think hibs will finish 12th and not hearts, without Griffiths i can't see hibs scoring 3 goals in a game all year, and will only score 2 goals every blue moon.

    They moved quite quickly to snap him up. He's a decent player and has more to offer if he can avoid injury. Good signing for both parties. St Mirren will probably have a few more in mind, but are perhaps waiting to see how things pan out for their intended targets before proceeding. Sensible on a limited budget.

    @10. Sincerely hope there's more than one more signing, Lennon has allowed buddies to significantly weaken with little comter action and it would be the ultimate embarrassment to find themselves demoted with a 15 point handicap.

    As a Jambo myself, I'm glad to see him get a new club after the bad injury he had last year.
    Would have loved for him to still be at Tynie, however, wasn't to be due to our current plight.
    He's a decent SPL player and I think he'll do a great job for the Saints.

    @2 Yep, I notice UBIG have 10 days to appeal the insolvency. Hearts are in the hole financially in respect of the ground, the other debts can be mitigated by the sale, but they have the stadium held against the debt so it would be sold separately.
    You're still losing players. Danny Wilson is club captain at 21. Don't get me wrong, I'm sympathetic to the Jambo's plight.

    Maybe we have less money to play with this year. Its okay to criticise the manager for letting players go and not replace them but if he has no money to spend theres not a lot he can do.
