Partick Thistle: Gabriel Rojo de la Vega Piccolo signs

Mexican defender Gabriel Rojo de la Vega Piccolo has joined Partick Thistle on a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old played for Spanish side Rayo Vallecano's B side last season.

"I must admit that Glasgow is a lovely city and what pleased me is that the rest of the boys made me feel very welcome," Piccolo said.

"I am very grateful for getting the opportunity to play here and I think it will be a good deal for both club and myself."

Piccolo began his career at Mexican team Club America but did not feature for their first-team.

He does not require a work permit as he holds an Italian passport.

Thistle manager Alan Archibald liked what he saw after Piccolo played for the Jags in friendlies against Cowdenbeath and AEL Limassol.

Archibald said: "I have now had the opportunity to see him play against a very high level of opposition and he looked very strong and aggressive and that is something that I am delighted to add to the squad."

    We seem to be going down the route of other Scottish Premiership clubs by bringing in many foreigners. I really think we should be focusing on raising native youngsters, someone in the top flight has to after all. I'm hoping this will be the last non-Scottish player we sign this year and also that we end up offloading him for several million pounds. He is 23 and Spanish after all.

    Nonsense, every team needs players with some strength and aggression, Scottish or otherwise. I saw the guy play today, he had some decent skill & read the game well

    Obviously not aware that one of Liverpool's greatest ever players, Alan Hansen, played for Thistle before joining Liverpool.

    @ 12. This team, by which you mean Partick Thistle are being reported on as they have signed a player, are champions of their division and who play in the top league in Scotland. 3 things LFC don't!! In great contrast to Liverpool who only seem to be reported on who they are going/trying/not signing or where Suarez is going to go next. Not everyone follows a team who live only on past glories.

    @16 Strange post. Thistle have been promoted. And November in Peterhead is a stroll in the park compared to January to March when the real cold weather comes.

    He looked 'strong and aggressive' the manager said, he had a first touch like Paul Gasgoines breath and the creative vision of a block of wood, but if he is strong and aggressive then these are the most important qualities of all so he will be brilliant

    @26 probably not really even truly aware of his clubs own history which makes his comment about PTFC nonsense.
