St Mirren manager Danny Lennon commends entertaining draw

St Mirren manager Danny Lennon praised the quality of football on display in Paisley as his side recovered from a goal down to draw with 10-man Killie.

Gary Harkins netted the leveller after Kris Boyd had put the visitors ahead before being sent off for violent conduct.

"It's something Scottish football has been needing," said Lennon.

"Hopefully, if you get that type of quality week in and week out, it'll put bums back on seats."

Boyd's strike four minutes into the second half put the visitors in the lead but the former Rangers man was sent off shortly afterwards for lashing out at Jim Goodwin.

Harkins struck the equaliser after a well-worked move and St Mirren spent much of the second half pressing for a winner, which Lennon felt his side deserved.

"First and foremost, it's great to get the point and get us off the mark in terms of our ambitions for this campaign," said Lennon.

"I thought for long periods of the game, for about 60 minutes we got back and showed the true identity of ourselves.

"Through the majority of the second half, we caused them problems and I thought it was a thoroughly entertaining game of football.

"It was wave after wave of attack and creating opportunities. I thought Kilmarnock defended very admirably when they had to. Craig Samson had two or three great saves, but it was a fantastic game of football.

"But over the piece, I felt it was two points dropped."

Lennon believes the quality on display demonstrated that his side can match most teams on their home turf, but conceded that his players have to take more opportunities to finish games off if they are to make progress this season.

"From our point of view, we had a lot of quality performances today, but we've got to make sure we can dominate - or attempt to dominate matches when it's 11 men v 11."
