Wycombe 2-1 Southend

Steven Craig

Steven Craig grabbed his first goal in English football as Wycombe beat Southend United to earn their first win since the opening day of the season.

Dean Morgan headed the hosts into an early lead, meeting Sam Wood's free-kick for his third goal in two games.

The Blues levelled when Freddy Eastwood fired in his fourth goal in four games, following Ryan Leonard's pull-back.

But Craig glanced in Max Kretzschmar's corner to make it 2-1 and Wycombe held on despite several close calls.

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"We took an onslaught second half, but after last weeks performance we deserved a win, we got the win and really pleased to have the home form back on track.

"We've got some miles to do in September.

"The fans got us through the last 10 minutes, thank you very much for that, and if you're coming on your travels with us because we will keep going as you keep shouting."
