Kyel Reid rescued a point for Bradford with a superb free-kick at Stevenage.
Greg Tansey made no mistake for the hosts from the spot after Gary Jones had blocked Luke Freeman's shot with his arm, sending visiting keeper Jon McLaughlin the wrong way.
James Dunne nearly doubled the lead but his effort was cleared off the line by Nathan Doyle amid appeals for a second penalty for handball.
Reid then levelled matters curling a stunning free-kick into the top corner.
