Queen's Park's dismal start to the season continued when they were beaten at home to Annan, leaving Gardner Speirs' men still searching for their first win of the season.
The points were all but wrapped up by half-time when Kenneth Mackay, Josh Todd and Alistair Love fired the visitors into a three-goal lead at the break.
Mackay added his second with a tap-in shortly after the restart, making it 4-0, before substitute Joao Pereira Vitoria fired past Kenny Arthur to pull a goal back for the hosts on 51 minutes.
Josh Todd restored Athletic's four-goal cushion with a fine run and finish just after the hour mark before Queen's Park's Liam Gormley netted on his debut to reduce the deficit with less than 10 minutes to play.
