A late Craig Beattie strike ensured Dundee kept up the pressure on Championship leaders Hamilton Accies.
A game of few chances game sparked into life with 13 minutes remaining when the home side went ahead through Peter MacDonald's close-range strike.
Queens equalised shortly after when Derek Lyle slotted the ball past Dens goalkeeper Kyle Letheren.
But, with seconds remaining on the clock, Beattie smashed the ball home to claim the points for Dundee.
Hamilton's home draw with Raith Rovers means Accies' lead over Dundee is reduced to one point.
