Fleetwood Town 0-1 Scunthorpe United

Scunthorpe earned victory at high-flying Fleetwood with Sam Winnall's second-half goal enough to seal it.

The woodwork denied Jeff Hughes an opener for Town while also having an effort saved by Sam Slocombe.

Scunthorpe broke the deadlock after Fleetwood took too long to clear and Winnall's shot cannoned off a red shirt and past keeper Scott Davies.

Deon Burton came close to adding a second, sending his effort spinning over the angle.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Fleetwood manager Graham Alexander told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"It was a game we should have won. We didn't take the chances we created and conceded a massively deflected goal.

"I can't think of Scott having any other saves to make all night.

"We had some good attacking opportunities but we didn't have the luck or the quality that you need and we'll rue that because we haven't scored and that's cost us."

Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws told BBC Radio Humberside:

"Well I think every manager would like their team to respond in a positive manner and great credit to the players. It's solely down to them and the effort they have put I because we could have felt sorry for ourselves after Saturdays performance and result but it's that bouncing back.

"We never really broke away because we couldn't. We couldn't get the link up play and that was disappointing and if we improved that then we give ourselves a good chance of getting something today.

"They almost matched our system really well, so there wasn't a lot of space on there, so when we got the ball there were a lot of bodies around us."
