Match ends, York City 4, Scunthorpe United 1.
First-half goals from Josh Carson, Wes Fletcher and a Ryan Brobbel brace saw York earn a comprehensive victory over Scunthorpe in League Two.
Carson opened the scoring with a deflected shot before Fletcher doubled York's lead with a strike into the top corner from a difficult angle.
It was soon 3-0 as Brobbel fired his first into the top corner - and he volleyed in a second before the break.
Scunthorpe added a consolation through Sam Winnall's side-foot from 12 yards.
VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
York City manager Nigel Worthington told BBC Radio York:
"That's your ideal situation and to do that for 90 minutes you'd love it to happen but really you know it's not going to.
"We started quickly to be fair and you know Scunthorpe are going to come out and have a go.
"I thought Carson got us going straight away. It was a good solid display over the course of 90 minutes.
"I'm never happy, I would have loved a clean sheet and probably more goals but it's a big three points, an important three points and that's the main thing."
Scunthorpe United manager Brian Laws told BBC Radio Humberside:
"I got it wrong in one respect. I picked the team but the formation I felt would have suited us away from home. It didn't work for us, however we can blame the formation but you've also got to look at your application as well.
"I thought the first 20 minutes was the key part of the game but we didn't press when we should have. We were second best on every ball and I'm going to give York credit because they started the game and pressed us and everything they wanted they won.
"I'm disappointed because it's not like us at all. We were just second best."
