Andy Bishop's header from Neil Ashton's cross gave Wrexham a deserved lead before Tamworth's Nick Chadwick struck the crossbar.
Joe Clarke's header hit the bar and he won a penalty after a foul by Wayne Thomas but Cameron Belford dived low to save Bishop's kick.
