Chris Hughes appointed Newtown manager

Welsh Premier League

Newtown have appointed Prestatyn Town assistant manager Chris Hughes as their new manager.

Hughes replaces Bernard McNally, who has left the Latham Park club to become head of youth at former club Shrewsbury Town.

"I'm absolutely delighted and looking forward to getting started here at Newtown," Hughes told the club website.

"It wasn't an easy decision to leave Prestatyn. I enjoyed my time there... but I wanted to be a number one."

Hughes continued: "It is a big step up, but I am confident with the good players we have here that we can perform well."

Hughes will be in charge for the first time when Newtown travel to Gap Connah's Quay in the Welsh Premier League on Friday night.
