@dinlo the walrus needs no duffel coat
Am I the only supporter who hopes England will get your correspondents' "worst" of the venues and the "hardest" opponents. Then, when they beat Brazil 3-0 in the final noone will be able to say they got lucky...
If England have to play two out of their three group games in tropical heat; they're heading back to Blighty having failed to make the knock out stage, quite possibly having finished bottom of their group. Most of our players are used to breakneck pace of play in single-digit temperatures. We're on a hiding to nothing with this tournament!
Good old Platini has managed to get it agreed that France will go into pot 4 rather than pot (as was planned) and now a draw will be made to see which Euro team gets moved into pot 2 prior to the WC group stage draw. A bit of a farce for the likes of England / Holland who have QF'd top of their group but may go in2 pot 2 and have 2 face Brazil / Spain & Italy / Holland etc.
I'm pretty sick of people directly comparing the temperatures of Qatar and Brazil. Temperature is not the only factor which will enhance fatigue; humidity is equally, if not more, important. Having personally been to both the middle east, where it is often 40 degrees plus and c.0% humidity, and areas where the av temp is c.30 degrees with 85%+ humidity, I think I would rather play in the former.
@214 yeah Scotland in mid-winter and no gloves or tights allowed. Definitely no snoods. And fans have to go topless like those fat Geordie ones that pretend their not cold.
I don't know why all WC aren't played in countries where the weather is comfortable for running around in.Not just to benefit the Europeans but many international players play in the top leagues in Europe so they're used to the cooler weather. Plus, even those that do play in hot countires, don't normally play in the middle of summer.
212- yup all so predictable....can't wait to see what sort of 8-2-0 formation Woy plays....Agree most English fans know the limitations of this squad and are pretty realistic. But at least they are there which is one thing....however wee Gordie is giving me hope that we will soon be going back to the big parties....
@210 don't know mate.. if roy can start taking risks and give up his subbuteo style tactics which are obvious to any oppo.. then just maybe theres a chance.. of course the tv pundits will ruin it for many of us.. including English fans
The draw matters not one iota. 20-30 year old men on the money they are on with the facilities at their disposal can run flat out for 90 minutes. That isn't the issue at all. Its what they do with the bloody ball when they have it that matters.
