@682.ESGOne off top of my head the LB (Bertnard is it?) Other than that yeah CFC are quite bad at pulling through youth players same as City since Pearce left. There was a lad at Utd who looked quite tasty Norwood I think scored a cracking goal against us, what's happened to him?@683.David Luiz Barmy's looking for you mate ;-)Agreed McEachran never looked good since he got loaned out.
DL - hiya mate, but is JM the man to integrate the youth into your team? I'm not so sure.Berba - agree I dont think the group is that bad? Euro defeat to italy (were Pirlo was class) but he's like 70 now aint he? Lots of fuss about Uruguay which I dont get. Eng v Ita (2-2) Eng v Uru (3-1) Eng v CR (3-0)
@682 - in your opinion mate. We had to face France in first game, Sweden (bogey team) in 2nd & then co-hosts in the 3rd. Entitled to your opinion but too much hype about this group, only 1 maybe 2 groups which are 'easy' all the rest are difficult regardless.Conditions are the same for everyone really but Italy have it tougher if anybody does - no excuse in my book. Anyway back to the Prem...
@670 Who touted him as that last year?Josh looked a good player 4 years ago, was put on loan 2 try & get exp of PL & sat on Swan's bench 4 a yearHas never got over that & I doubt he will play high levelLooking @ where we r short (CB, LB, DM & CF) we have youth very close 2 the 1st team in all bar LBHowever I can't see JM bringing through 4-5 together so a couple of signings r 2 b expected
@681 True, but look @constant, how many cfc academy plyrs have broken in2 1st team? Suggests there is something wrong there. Plenty of talented plyrs, just not nurtured 2 break through. @680 Euro group was less hard & conditions were easier. Uruguary are superior 2 France & Sweden, so are Italy.
@678ESGLimit of 400 CharactersMy point being that a player can look fantastic for a while but never take a step up i.e. McEachran for a while he looked quality but now it looks like he'll never make it.@677.1954 ShenanigansOf course it's an opinion whether it's superior to, say yours, I'll let others decide.@679.Jeb Maybe we can get Carra back for last training for "fitness" purposes.
A tough group but one we can get out of - arguably the one we had in 2002 was harder with Sweden, Argentina & Nigeria in harsh conditions in Japan/S. Korea. On paper I would say our Euro '12 group was harder & we got out of that one as well.I think we will draw 1-1 with Italy, beat Uruguay 2-1 in a bad-tempered affair then scrape past Costa Rica 2-0 with two late goals. Then lose to Greece ;-)
676. maccaynwaMaybe SG will do it in training for us before your last game!I have to be honest, I have no idea how good Uruguay are these days. I obviously saw their run in 2010, but is Forlan even still about??I think as long as the players know they are capable of winning every game, but the press and fans think we aren't, we're in with a chance. Psychology will play a big part as always.
@676 Macca - Course it's difficult 2 judge talent, but that's why the manager has a fulltime job 2do that & watch the youth. IMO either the youth in ur academy are good enough 2 play in ur 1st team or u need 2 change ur academy cos what's the point of having plyrs that aren't? Some managers won't take the risk. BUT they have done / doing in Germany & it's paying off spectacularly.
676Lolwut ? How can Savage have not got that wrong ? Unless what he suggests actually happens you cant say either way. Or are we dealing with a case of your superior opinion ?
@669.King RedTo be fair Savage doesn't get it wrong in that article@664.JebIF LFC are nailed on for top 4 and are winning the game I fully expect Stevie G to hold him down for Jones@ESG & JDIt's a bit hard to judge kids, I look at Morgan for us, he is a fantastic finisher, but unless he breaks through soon I'll expect him to leave.
JD - afternoon squire, I get that mate but surely when Southampton are paying 10-15m for players as are WHU but still producing the quality they have over the last 10 years it makes more sense to at least give it some attention? I'm no expert on JM but at Porto, cfc, rm, IM what did he ever contribute towards their youth system?
@672 JD - Lol I remember he looked ok in patches. But was he just not good enough or not get the right training?Ppl should look @Bundesliga where I said, avg age has steadily fallen. More & more clubs are realising the effects of the changing development of German footy & are taking risks by playing youngsters. Mat Ginter is only 19 & he's already had 50+ games @Bundesliga lvl.
664. Jeb As Gary Neville said in commentary yesterday" i expect we will sort out the opposition later in the season"ie munch as many as possible b4 world cup
@670 ESGWe had McEchren on loan at Boro last year, I can assure you he will not be the next iniesta - I'd be surprised if he is even playing football in 5 years time - awful.@LedleyI think the lesser club have no option but to develop youngsters because they simply cant afford to buy for the moment like Chelsea etc do
King Red, lol how does Robbie savage even get a slot on here!!Surely mate Its no coincidence WHU, Southampton have produced and developed umpteen youngsters over the last few years with lesser resources? Jm for me doesnt make it a priority, would rather spend 25m on a 20 year old. Dont get me wrong, he is class at what he does just think if he stuck about longer he could build something special
