Ballymena United consolidated their position in the top six of the Irish Premiership thanks to David Cushley's 61st-minute strike at the Showgrounds.

The on-form winger drilled a low shot past Alvin Rouse and inside the post after being set up by Allan Jenkins.

Jenkins could have added a second but the skipper blazed over from 12 yards after Gary Thompson laid the ball off.

The Mallards' best chance fell to Nathan Cashel, but his header was tipped over by Yohann Lacroix.

In the first half, Jenkins just failed to get on the end of an Aaron Stewart cross.

The ninth-placed Mallards have now just taken one point from a possible 15, with Ballymena having accumulated 10 points out of 12.
