Hibernian 2-3 St Mirren

Adam Campbell-inspired St Mirren survived a spirited Hibs comeback to secure maximum points at Easter Road.

Paul McGowan's fifth-minute shot struck the post and found the net via unlucky Hibs goalkeeper Ben Williams.

The Buddies added two in quick succession when Campbell fired home, then delivered a cross for Steven Thompson to nod in from close range.

James Collins reduced the deficit with two headers and the Buddies survived a late penalty appeal to earn victory.

The Buddies broke the deadlock when McGowan's shot came back off the post before hitting Williams and trickling into the net.

Hibs came close to levelling when Marc McAusland and Jim Goodwin dithered in the box and Jason Cummings's deflected shot whistled wide.

Campbell doubled St Mirren's lead with a composed finish after playing a neat one two with John McGinn and firing an angled drive past Williams.

And the on-loan Newcastle striker then turned provider, gliding past Lewis Stevenson before firing in a dangerous cross for Thompson to head home from close range.

Shell-shocked Hibs had the crossbar to thank as they almost slipped four down as McGowan's lob came back off the woodwork.

With the visitors seemingly coasting to victory, Terry Butcher's men finally bared their teeth and reduced the deficit through Collins.

The striker headed home Alex Harris's cross and then grabbed his and Hibs's second when he directed home Stevenson's free-kick.

With their tails up, the hosts poured forward in search of an equaliser and appealed unsuccessfully for a Campbell handball in the box.
