Irish Premiership: Portadown 1-0 Ballinamallard United

Emmet Friars headed Portadown's winner against Ballinamallard

A header early in the second half by Emmett Friars proved enough to give Portadown victory over Ballinamallard United at Shamrock Park.

Central Friars had been restored to the Ports' line-up because Chris Ramsey was suspended following his dismissal in Saturday's cup defeat by Glentoran.

He headed in from a Chris Casement corner in the 52nd minute.

Ballinamallard, beaten 11-0 at the same venue earlier the season, have taken just one point from a possible 18.

In the first half Portadown striker Gary Twigg saw a shot saved by Mallards keeper Alvin Rouse after a good ball by home defender Keith O'Hara.

Rouse was called into action again, tipping Sean Mackle's effort on to the crossbar in the 20th minute.

At the other end, David Kee picked out Richard Lecky and the big front man's header was saved by David Miskelly.
