St Mirren 0-0 Partick Thistle

By Brian McLauchlinBBC Scotland at St Mirren Park

Neither St Mirren nor Partick Thistle could find the net as the elements played their part in Paisley.

Adam Campbell threatened for the hosts in the first half but the best chance fell to team-mate Steven Thompson, who took a poor touch in front of goal.

At the other end, James Craigen fired high over the St Mirren bar from a promising position.

Paul McGowan came closest to breaking the deadlock, his shot rattling the frame of the Thistle goal.

The Jags, second bottom in the Scottish Premiership, move level on points with Ross County while St Mirren slip below Kilmarnock into ninth spot.

Under dark clouds the game began but there was little goalmouth action to brighten up the crowd in the opening 45 minutes.

Gregg Wylde, who was making his home debut for St Mirren, was looking lively down the left hand side and on a couple of occasions his crosses into the box were a cause for concern for Thistle but the Saints strikers failed to make any connection.

The Jags were dealt a blow after 26 minutes when Kallum Higginbotham was carried off on a stretcher with what looked like a serious leg injury to be replaced by Steven Lawless.

Campbell forced Paul Gallacher into a decent save but the best chance of the half fell to Buddies top scorer Steven Thomson.

The former Scotland international found himself clean through on goal just eight yards out but inexplicably failed to control the ball and Gallacher was able to collect with ease.

Thistle also had a chance when Chris Erskine flicked the ball through to Craigen but his effort was blasted high over the crossbar.

The home side were much better in the second period.

McGowan crashed a shot off the base of the post with Gallacher scrambling across his line.

However, Thistle almost stole victory when Kris Doolan got clear only for Darren McGregor to make a fine challenge to deny the Thistle striker.
